Corn Ethanol, Zero Benefit, Not Zero Emissions

Charles E Grassley, R-Iowa, blocked the removal of a tariff of 54 cents per gallon on ethanol, most of which comes from Brazil. This protectionist move was for the benefit of his Iowa corn farmer constituents, but not the American public. Of all the materials from which ethanol can be made, corn is the worst. It costs $8.00 per gallon to make and uses tons of water to grow and process.It also requires fossil fuels to make and refine.  It inflates the price of corn and corn by-products....

I have been reading comments of people arguing on blog sites today. You know the type. They sign in to a blog, no matter what the subject and proceed to argue back an forth as to the meaning of something the original article writer said and what they believe to be true or not. Today the subject was sustainability and what the term meant or implied. One side said that it was a bogus term meaning absolutely nothing…

Bob Lutz, CEO of GM, was on Letterman last night spreading the usual auto industry meadow muffins. He and Letterman were talking about electric cars, specifically the Chevy Volt which GM is touting as the next great car. Never mind that it won't go more than 40 miles without re-charging. . . .
