A news story in the Tucson Daily Star today, 11/17/2009, reported a new solar panel plant to be built in Phoenix. It is to employ about 250 or more people. This makes three solar manufacturing plants in the state of Arizona. The only problem is that they are all foreign owned. The latest one, announced today, is owned by the Chinese, SunTech Power Holdings Company. The other two are Germany based Solon AG and the German company Schletter Inc. maker of solar panel mounting systems...

A report from Der Spiegel On Line, an electronic version of the German newspaper, reports that a new study by Susan Trumbore of the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry in Jena, Germany, revealed that the environment, including the oceans and rain forests, are able too absorb far more CO2 than previously thought. Is this good news?
Kansas at the Forefront? In Denial
Last week an article in the news told of the Kansas Supreme Court agreeing to uphold a law bannig wind farms in the great Flint Hills 30 miles west of Wichita. They didn't want to despoil the views. I have driven through that area dozens of times visiting my inlaws. The Flint Hills are majestic, particularly when the wild flowers are in bloom. Mostly they occur along the roads and the view of them wouldn't be bothered that much by a wind turbine. But I'm willing too compromise...

Deniers are Winning? or Whining?
An unsettling and unfortunate trend is developing with regard to global warming. A survey by the Pew Research Center shows a rapid decline in the number of Americans who believe there is solid scientific evidence that the world has been warming over the past several decades, falling from 71% to 57% in only 18 months. A survey by Rasmussen Reports found that US voters who believe that global warming is due to natural causes now outnumber those who believe that it is caused by human activity.
